As quiet as it’s kept, all eyes are on you and especially now. Your beautiful black skin and hair are ruling empires and causing those in the beauty industry to seek you out.
You see, there was a time when you were told that your beauty was not beautiful, that your natural hair was nappy and kinky. Some were even called pick-a-ninny. What is a pick-a-ninny?
I used to hear my elders say, “The cream always rises to the top”. You my Queens are the “Cream” of the beauty industry.
Your thirst for recognition and expression of your true beauty has now got the beauty industry vying for your attention.
You often hear the term the Browning of America. A lot of factors have played into the birth of this term: You having to ability to produce children at warp speed, Interracial marriages, the increase in other cultures of dark skin people coming into America, just to name a few.
But it’s all of these factors that have caused the beauty industry to address your black skin and hair care needs.
Let’s not get it twisted, for most it’s about the bottom line but for a small few, it’s about being able to serve you and provide products for your skin and hair care needs.
The New Beauty Ideal
It’s very clear that the tapestry of the population of the U.S. is changing. Slowly the image of the rail thin white girl is changing as the “Ideal Beauty” image.
Your relatives, even though they don’t think so, the Hispanics, the East Indians, the Brazilians, the Caribbean … they’re all participating in the new world of global beauty.
I’ve talked to so many people of color that are blacker than 12 midnights, and they’ve looked me in the eye and told me that they are not black.
Have you ever seen a black person with the wrong color makeup on? Imagine these blacker than 12 midnight people walking into a store, going to the makeup counter and saying to the sales associate, I’m not black so don’t put dark makeup on my skin.
Imagine what you’d look like! That would be some image of beauty. Back to seriousness, because there are so many people of color on the planet, with money and choices, the beauty industry is moving with a quickness to present you with products.
