Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Reco from Bravo TV’s Fashion Show.
When I saw his skin, I was jealous. It was flawless. Not one pimple, not one hair bump, just flawless.
After seeing his skin, it prompted me to take another look at skin care for black men.
A lot of black men have a condition known as pseudofolliculitis barbae but commonly referred to as “ingrown hairs” or “razor bumps”. This condition is no joke. Have you ever experienced an ingrown hair? Try having more than one, you’ll stand up and take notice.
This condition occurs because black hair grows in the shape of a coil. This causes that hair to turn inward and re-enter the hair follicle.
It’s a condition that can be treated and corrected based on how you shave and the razor you choose.
Washing your skin before shaving is helpful in exfoliating and lifting the hair away from the follicle while softening your hair and preparing it for your shave. You should shave in the direction of the hair growth. Shave in the same direction each time.
Reco didn’t seem to have this condition but for the black men that do, there are products on the market that can help you have a much better feeling and experience, before and during your shave.
Here’s to a much more comfortable shave.
