Certain ingredients found in black skin care products, keep coming up in the news. So, I thought I’d post a reminder about these products that are are not always good for our skin.
Three products in particular –
- Any Parabens- parabens are used in skin care products as preservatives. Parabens are associated with breast cancer and Soduium methyl parabens can cause skin to loose it’s pigment.
- Petrolatum- You know it as petroleum jelly. Not as friendly to black skin as we think. Petroleum based products clog your pores causing black heads, white heads and other skin eruptions. Propylene glycols, mineral oils and other petroleum based products should be avoided.
- Chemical bleachng/whiteners- sold to lighten your skin, can be very harmful.
Bottom line, read your labels very carefully when buying black skin care products. And when you have a reaction to a product that you’re using to care for your skin, stop immediately. Your body is talking to you, so listen.
