You often feel that as black women, oils should not be used on your face. While this is true for some of you, it does not ring true for everyone. You’re accustomed to using petroleum, such as that found in Vaseline.
Because of their large molecular structure, petroleum based oils such as mineral oil and liquid silicone, have a tendency to sit on top of your skin.
However, plant based oils will penetrate neatly in to your skin. These plant based oils are also referred to as carrier oils. They have a tendency to leave your skin looking plump, radiant and well nourished. You’ve seen and heard about many of these oil, they include: jojoba, olive, coconut, avocado, argan, sweet almond and evening primrose.
You all know that creams work, however there’s nothing like an oil to keep your skin subtle and soft. If you think about it, the only thing left when you remove all the ingredients from a lotion or cream is pure oil. Most oils do not need preservatives, since they do not contain water. Water is actually what provides a breeding ground for bacteria.
Finally , 5 Oils and Oil Blends For Your Face
1. A blend of essential oils make a great companion for oils used on your face. Neroli, sandalwood, juniper berry and sage will help keep your skin plump and hydrated all day.
2. Argan oil blended with avocado oil, vitamin E and jojoba are also versatile oils when it comes to caring for your face.
3. Prickly pear seed oil is a light oil that’s elegant and absorbent. It plumps and nourishes your skin, calms redness and inflammation. It’s loaded with linoleic and amino acids, which also help fade hyperpigmentation.
4. Camelina oil is a light oil from the arctic. It’s rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids known to work as an anti-inflammatory.
5. We’ve all heard of how the essence of the sea is used to nourish your skin. Often referred to as the magic blend,
seaweed and algae, omega fatty acids and turmeric are all known to tighten, plump and even out your skin tone.
While this is just a small sampling of oil blends that can be used on your face, it’s a beginning of a new and not so new technique for black skin care.
