Yes it’s that time of the year when you show off more than your fair share of skin. I mean with, off the shoulder and peak-a-boo shoulder tops, who can blame you? For those of you who can, and for some of those who probably shouldn’t, bare midriff is also on the rise.
What does that say to you? It’s time to treat the rest of your body like it belongs in the picture and give it some tender loving care. Time to exfoliate and bring on the body oil.
Exfoliation is that process when you remove the dead skin cells and bring the feel of soft, smooth skin to the surface. And let’s not forget that slather of body oil that’s been blended just right to enhance the supbleness of your skin.
Do’s and Don’t of Summer Skin Care
Do exfoliate at least once a week. Exposed skin can take a beating from the sun’s rays and dry your skin out. Exfoliation will help in removing dead skin cell build up from the dryness.
Do moisturize on a daily basis. When you step out of the shower or tub, have your favorite body oil ready to ooze all over, making you skin soft to touch and feel like a baby’s bottom.
Do wear clothing that’s breathable. Fabrics such as light weight cotton, handkerchief linen or a blend of the two are great for summer wardrobes. They absorb any perspiration and leave your skin feeling cool. Synthetic fibers … your polyester blends, modal and rayon can hold heat, perspiration and cause unwelcome body odors.
Don’t overdo it with perfume. Your body temperature will cause the scent of any perfume to rise or be more noticeable in the air. This can cause a pleasant or not so pleasant odor to those around you.
Don’t skip the sunscreen. A lot of you want a natural based full body sunscreen or sun block. You’d be surprised at what a bottle of coconut oil mixed with Lavender essential oil will do for sunburned skin. Why not treat it as a preventative measure and rub down in it at the beach ?
Don’t substitute fruit drinks and ice teas as your water. Too much sun exposure can cause dehydration to your body and skin. It’s a great idea to always have bottled water to sip on throughout the day. The better hydrated you are internally, the better your skin will look and feel.
Do get your rest. Yes the days are longer and you want to enjoy every minute of sunlight. You can loose track of time and find yourself going to bed much later than usual and having to get up at your regular scheduled time to go to work or get the children off to school. Unless your job environment provides a space for you to get a power nap during the day, you can find yourself drained of energy as the week progresses.
This puts stress on your body and that beautiful summer skin glow will begin to look dull, dry and unattractive.
Here’s to great skin and hot fun in the summertime. As always …
